What is included with dog insurance coverage?
Dog insurance plans cover different procedures, from policy to policy. The most common Basic Care plans will typically offer reimbursements on veterinary services for accidental injuries and care for unexpected illnesses. This could include coverage of any required surgical procedures, prescription medication, diagnostic testing or wellness exams.
Accident and Illness Care plans, on the other hand, will only cover unexpected injuries/illnesses. So while these plans won’t cover your routine visits, they will help cut costs in an emergency situation. And that can alleviate a lot of stress in the already stressful ordeal of an accident!
What is not included with dog health insurance?
Every dog health insurance plan is different. But in general, a Basic Care or Emergency Care plan will not cover routine/preventative care, spaying/neutering or vaccinations.
Does dog insurance cover all vet visits?
No. No dog insurance plan covers 100% of the costs of your dog’s care. So unfortunately, dog insurance does not cover all vet visits.
Does dog insurance cover pre-existing conditions?
Most dog insurance plans do not cover pre-existing conditions. But if your dog has a pre-existing condition — don’t panic! You can still insure your dog with coverage on other areas of his/her health, including vaccinations or emergency care. There are specialized insurance plans tailored to meet the needs of pre-existing conditions in animals. If this applies to your dog, we recommend asking your veterinarian for suggestions to ensure your dog gets the best care possible!
Does dog insurance cover right away?
It depends. Some plans will bundle services together, which will require you to pay upfront prior to an appointment. But generally, most dog insurance plans will require you to submit a claim for coverage after receiving care. This will result in a reimbursement of up to 80% (depending on your specific plan.)
